Catechism
Catechism Program 2022-2023
The catechism program aims to offer children the opportunity to develop their faith so they can grow in their relationship with God and His Church.
As a parish, we believe that it is the responsibility of the entire faith community, especially parents/guardians, to share the commitment to religious education. Thank you for enrolling your child(ren) in the catechism program.
Registration Fee
There is a $40 per child registration fee to cover the purchase of textbooks and activity books. We will be using the books from the Faith and Life series as the main material for catechism. Please pay the registration fee no later than October 30th. Make cheques payable to St. John the Evangelist Parish. If you need support to cover the costs of registration, please speak to Father Ramon or your child’s catechist.

Attendance
Children are encouraged to attend classes consistently to ensure continuity and success in the program. Children are also encouraged to attend Mass regularly, discuss faith issues at home, and give witness to the faith by being involved actively in the parish community.
While we realize that students have schoolwork and extra activities, it may be necessary to send faith work home to be completed. This may be required as class time is limited and does not allow for an extended time to complete some activities. As well, some assignments are best done at home as they promote family discussion and family faith development. We encourage parents/guardians to work with their children to complete these assignments.
Behaviour and Discipline
Please speak to your children and ensure they understand that our Catechists are volunteers who give freely of their time to share their faith. They deserve to be treated with respect.
Students are expected to conduct themselves in a Christian manner and show respect for all volunteers and other students in our program. No electronic devices should be used in class.
Required Materials
Each student will be given a copy of the corresponding Faith and Life Series student textbook and activity book. The fee for the books is covered by the $40 registration fee.
