Sacrament of Confirmation 2025

Important dates regarding Confirmation preparation:

MARCH 28 - 29, 2025
The Confirmation Program prepares the knowledge of the children about their faith, as well as their Spirit to receive the Sacrament. With this, the children need to attend a 2-day Confirmation retreat with details as follows:
  • Time: Friday, March 28, 7 pm -10 pm to Saturday, March 29, 7:30 am – 6:00 pm.
  • Registration Fee: $10 to cover meals on both days.
  • THINGS TO BRING: Bible, Rosary, notebook, pen, and extra clothes (Sunday's best for mass).
At times, we may take photos or videos of the children at work to share with the parents and/or to post within the parish. Kindly sign the Health and Consent form and bring them back to Kitin on or before 15 March 2025 to give ample to time for the preparation. Thank you.

APRIL 26, 2025
As informed during the Parent's Orientation, Archbishop Albert LeGatt invites candidates to come with their parents (from our parish and other parishes) to meet with His Grace prior to the reception of the sacrament of Confirmation. Here is some information regarding this meeting:
  • The meeting is on April 26, 2025 from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm at 180 de la Cathédrale Avenue, Winnipeg. This is at the main doors of St. Boniface Cathédrale.
  • There’s no dress code but we highly suggest that the children are dressed properly. Please, bring their jackets in case the weather is cold.
  • We can all travel together but if you prefer to travel ahead, we have no problem with that. If carpooling, we will meet in the middle between Morden and Winkler by the Boundary Trail Hospital. Please be at the Parking lot of Boundary Trail Hospital at 7:45 am. We will leave at 8:00 am so we have enough travel time (we anticipate traffic and parking difficulties since we are meeting the Archbishop together with other parishes).
  • The first hour will be a time of prayer and teaching from Archbishop Albert LeGatt himself. For the second hour, we will walk across to the historical 151 de la Cathédrale building where His Grace continues to teach. Please prepare your children for this activity just to anticipate if His Grace will ask the children random questions. The catechism class has received copies of the summary.
  • The visit usually concludes with a simple snack and this is provided by the Archdiocese. If you prefer to bring your own snacks, you may do that too. We can all go separately after the activity.

Reminder that the children will have their regular scheduled catechism class on Sunday, April 27, 2025 at 4:00 pm.

JUNE 28, 2025
SATURDAY, PHOTO SESSION, REHEARSAL and CONFESSION
Each candidate will have an assigned task in the Confirmation Mass. We will assign them as Lectors, Offertory or Collectors in the mass.
In preparation for receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation, it is required that each candidate go to confession.
Since we have 25 Candidates for Confirmation, it will take a while for the Photographer to take all the photographs of the candidates for this special occasion. Hence, a separate session will be held for this purpose. Time of the Photo session is to be determined.

JUNE 29, 2025 - CONFIRMATION DAY
The Confirmation mass will take place at 5:00 pm.

DRESS EXPECTATIONS (WHAT TO WEAR)
  • Candidates are expected to dress in a clean and appropriate manner to gathering within the Christian community. Wearing of white is a visible way to emphasis the connection of baptism and confirmation.
    •  Girls: White dress, knee length or longer. Shoulder, chest and back must be covered.
    • Boys: Dark pants white shirt.

ENTRANCE PROCESSIONAL
The Candidates will be part of the processional together with their Sponsor. Candidates, Parents and Sponsors, please be at the Church by 9:30 am. There is a designated seat for candidates and their sponsors. Candidates and their sponsor will come to Archbishop Albert for the anointing with chrism oil. Sponsors place their right hand over the right shoulder of the candidate as His Grace anoints the candidate.

HOMILY AND  DIALOGUE WITH THE CANDIDATES
Archbishop LeGatt’s homily is in the form of a dialogue with the candidates. This will include knowing the gifts and fruits of the Spirit as well as the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy.

PHOTOS AND VIDEO
This is a prayerful celebration and all those gathered are invited and entitled to engage fully without distractions. During the Mass photos and/or video will be taken by only one official photographer. Details on fees will be sent to parents.

GATHERING AFTER MASS
It has been a tradition in our parish to have a celebration after the Confirmation Mass and have a meal with Archbishop. This is potluck, so bring a meal that you can share with the group. CWL will offer a cake for the candidates in celebration on receiving the sacrament. You may leave the food at the Kitchen of our Parish Hall before mass. Members of our parish will help with arranging the gathering.

Sacrament of Marriage

Did you know that it is recommended that you meet with your pastor at least six months prior to your wedding date? Only after this initial meeting should you set a firm date for your wedding. After meeting with your pastor, you can then register for a marriage preparation session. View the new calendar for marriage preparation sessions and the possibilities offered to you on the website of the Archdiocese of St. Boniface, http://www.archsaintboniface.ca in the ‘Marriage, Family and Life’ section.
